A green reform of the Danish car taxation

A green reform of the Danish car taxation

April 13, 2015

Copenhagen Economics has been commissioned by the Danish Electric Vehicle Alliance, which is an independent trade association under the Danish Energy Association, to assist in developing a proposal for a green reform of car taxation. For this purpose an extensive spreadsheet model has been developed in order to calculate total costs of ownership (TOC) for specific cars, government revenue, and dynamic effects on car demand. The final report contains an analysis of the existing vehicle tax system, a discussion of pros and cons of various principles of car taxation, as well as a presentation of the implications of the reform proposed by the Danish Electric Vehicle Alliance
