At a conference organised by the Danish association of transport economists (TØF), held on 8th January 2009, Partner Martin H. Thelle presented a report on the dynamic and strategic benefits of a Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link between Denmark and Germany. The fixed link, replacing the current ferry service, will be opened in 2017. The link will increase trade between Scandinavia and central Europe, which will lead to economic benefits for Denmark, Sweden and Germany. The European Commission is expected to provide 10-20 percent of the funding for the fixed link. The remaining costs of the fixed link will be financed by the users of the link – with the help of a guarantee from the Danish State. The fixed link will be managed and operated by the State owned company, Sund & Bælt.
