Copenhagen Economics has assisted the Region of Southern Denmark in getting an updated picture of how the demand for labour develops over time. We prepared a forecast of labour demand across sectors and compared labour demand with the supply of labour in the region.
We find that the Region of Southern Denmark faces significant challenges in ensuring that the future labour demand and supply are in balance. Overall, we expect labour demand to increase, and the level of unemployment is expected to reach historically low levels over the next ten years time. However, there is a significant mismatch on the labour market: there will be excess supply of unskilled labour in the region, whereas there will not be enough skilled workers in the region to meet demand.
