Denmark is lagging behind world leaders in terms of high speed broadband. Faster broadband is a crucial driver for innovation, and it leads to creation of new online services and new businesses. Faster broadband also improves the work processes of enterprises and the public sector.
We estimate that achieving twenty times higher speed on the internet – which corresponds to keeping up with speed in Sweden – will increase Danish GDP by approximately 7 percent in the long run and increase employment by about 10,000 persons. To reap these potential gains, the public sector has an important role to play in securing the incentives for investment in fast broadband and foster demand for services which require high speed internet.
