In Finland, the most pronounced change relates to the increased use of economics as a tool in merger control activities carried out by the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA).
According to prominent competition law practitioners, interviewed by Copenhagen Economics, this trend is most likely driven by organisational changes within the FCCA, who appointed its first chief economist at the beginning of 2017 and a number of new economists to support their competition case team. As a result, we have seen and expect to continue seeing an increased involvement of economists both on the FCCA’s and merging parties’ side.
