Based on work for the Danish financial sector, we have compiled a list of investments needed towards 2030 to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. In total, we find that investments amounting to some 25% of GDP could be necessary. Scaling to an EU level, this corresponds to EUR 3,500 bn.
To realise the investments, a full range of financial instruments is needed, e.g. mortgage funding for energy renovations, or risk capital for research and scaling of new technologies.
