High-speed trains in the Nordic countries will provide substantial environmental benefits

April 13, 2015

Copenhagen Economics has analysed the effects of establishing a high-speed rail link between the Nordic capitals and Hamburg. The study focused on the environmental effects of the expected changes in traffic patterns and on the consequences for Copenhagen Airport and the relevant airlines.

The study estimates that such a link may provide monetized environmental benefits of app. 3 billion DKK. The increased catchment area for Copenhagen Airport will almost make up for the loss in intra-Nordic passengers, however with a negative net effect on the air passenger volume.
