Key take-aways from this year’s Competition Law Nordic

Key take-aways from this year’s Competition Law Nordic

March 25, 2021

Yesterday, Informa Connect hosted the annual Competition Law Nordic conference, which Copenhagen Economics was proud to sponsor.

Managing Director Dr Adina Claici and Managing Director Anna Möller Boivie participated in plenary sessions discussing sustainability and competition law from an Economist’s perspective. They discussed possible ways to quantify the benefits to society stemming from sustainability initiatives undertaken by the private sector, and how to balance those against potential anti-competitive effects in antitrust, mergers and state aid cases.

Partner Dr Henrik Ballebye Okholm participated in a panel on Competition Law for Digital Markets, discussing competition law in the digital era. Dialogue, sector studies and solving cases with voluntary remedies are important steps to develop knowledge and guidelines for how to apply competition law to digital platform markets.

Managing Economist Dr Norbert Maier and Senior Economist Dr Erik Lindén gave a stand-alone presentation on the Economics of Competition in Digital Markets. They found that ongoing ex-post and ex-ante regulation of competition in the digital industry, in the case of gatekeepers and data, for example, are not fully in line with the basic principles of economics and that more work is needed in this field.
