In his report ‘A NEW STRATEGY FOR THE SINGLE MARKET’, which was handed to José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission on 10 May, Professor Mario Monti makes a reference to a study done by Copenhagen Economics on the benefits of a Digital Single Market in Europe (read the Monti report here).

Based on the study, Professor Monti advise the EU Commission President Barosso to take urgent action to “remove a number of bottlenecks that are currently still hampering the rapid development of the digital single market.”

Professor Monti was asked by the Commission President, back in November 2009, to prepare a report providing helpful and valuable inputs for an initiative to relaunch the Single Market as a key strategic objective of the new Commission

In parallel, Copenhagen Economics was asked by the European Policy Centre and a group European technology companies and public authorities, to prepare an economic study on the impacts of barriers and lack of foundations for an internal market for Europe’s digital economy. The study was released on 26 April 2010.
