Copenhagen Economics has together with the think-tank Bertelsmann Stiftung authored a study on the EU principle of subsidiarity and economic growth. The study is input to the initiative of the Austrian EU presidency of increased focus on subsidiarity. We find that to ensure inclusive growth and to deal with future challenges, the EU needs a renewed focus on the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality. For example, in financial market regulation and the common Agriculture policy, some regulation could be better fitted for local regions. On the other hand, when creating world class digital infrastructure most value is added when acting on an EU-level.
