German TSO TenneT faces – like many other European TSOs – two main challenges when trying to plan a new grid development plan for the future. First of all, the future energy mix will increasingly be based on volatile renewable sources located often far away from the consumer and second of all, there is high uncertainty regarding the key drivers of grid investments.
This is one of the key conclusions in our new study on the current German transmission grid development plan, in which we analyse weaknesses and make recommendations for reform.
