April 13, 2015

Copenhagen Economics has assessed the employment effects during the construction of the fixed link between Denmark and Germany on behalf of Femern A/S. The Femern Belt fixed link will be the world’s largest immersed tunnel, and the construction is expected to be completed by 2021.

The study shows that the construction phase will lead to an employment equivalent to 55,000 man-years over the whole period. Direct and indirect employment is estimated to be 44,000 man-years in Denmark and 7.000 man-years in Germany during the period from 2008 to 2021.
