New study: Evaluation of the Greenlandic employment strategy 2015

November 15, 2019

Based on a high and increasing number of unemployed people during the first half of the 2010’s, the Government of Greenland in 2015 (in collaboration with CE) presented an employment strategy to counteract this increase. Since the publication of the strategy, the Greenlandic economy has experienced strong growth resulting in a decrease in unemployment.

In this study, we evaluate the individual initiatives to uncover their contribution to the unemployment decrease and share insights on what worked well and what worked less well. Overall, we find that 35% of the total decrease in the number of unemployed since 2014 can be attributed to the strategy alone. This is a significant contribution.
