New study: Improving the design of the Nordic power market – going to ‘finer time resolution’

November 20, 2017

Implementing 15-minute resolution in the so called ‘imbalance settlement period’ will bring immediate benefits to the Nordic region through better use of existing interconnectors and increased possibilities for trading flexibility with neighboring countries.

In this study, we investigate the merits of moving to finer time resolution in the Nordic power markets. As the electricity markets are undergoing major changes and the market design needs be adapted, we find that going to 15-minute imbalance settlement period is a step in the right direction.
