New study: Low productivity growth in the service sector in Region Zealand

June 6, 2018

If the productivity in the service sectors in Region Zealand had increased at the same pace as the remaining regions, Region Zealand’s GDP would be 6% higher today.

Productivity in the service sectors in Region Zealand is almost unchanged in the past 20 years. In this period, the productivity in the manufacturing and primary industries increased around 2% annually.

Since the mid-00’s, the productivity in the service sectors in Region Zealand fell behind the other Danish Regions’ service sectors and the productivity has not caught up. This is partly due to the fact that the most productive service sectors in Region Zealand are also the most constrained, and partly due to the relative increase in employment in the low-productivity service sector in Region Zealand.
