Copenhagen Economics has conducted a study for the interest organisation ‘Danish Aviation’ (Dansk Luftfart) focusing on the sector’s economic contribution to society as well as the current and future challenges facing the industry.

The Danish aviation sector creates substantial value for the Danish society and facilitates numerous jobs. The high level of connectivity further allows for productivity gains, foreign investments and tourism. However, the sector is held back by outdated framework conditions. There is a risk of losing a sizeable part of the economic contribution as well as thousands of jobs. There is a need for an aviation strategy that can support future growth.

The main conclusions are

  • The Danish aviation sector contributes with as much as 100 billion DKK yearly to the Danish GDP through direct, indirect, induced and catalytic effects. The sector further supports around 150,000 jobs.
  • With the right set of growth supporting initiatives, this contribution can increase by 8 billion DKK and support a further 16,000 jobs.
  • In the absence of initiatives, there is a risk of losing a sizeable share of the economic contribution. 15,000 jobs are at risk
