New study: Swedish transport policies are not designed with competitiveness in mind

November 23, 2015

Cost efficient transports are vital to firms in Sweden, especially due to the country’s remote location and relatively poor access to main markets in Europe. Transport policies, such as taxes and fees, add to the total transport costs but it is not known to what extent or what the implications of higher cost might be on the competitiveness of firms in Sweden.

In this study, we show that the impacts might be substantial, but that available data and modelling capabilities are not enough to make a proper analysis. We recommend that the relevant government agencies invest in model and data development and engage in closer dialogue with key stakeholders in the private sector in this process.

On 12-13 January, Martin Flack presents the results at Transportforum in Linköping.
