New study: The implications of the DMA for external trade and EU firms

June 10, 2021

Our recent study on the EU proposed DMA regulation – effects on the EU external trade – is now out. It was discussed in a webinar today involving distinguished speakers from the European Commission, the Atlantic Council and Google.

  • Nearly 1 in 4 € of EU GDP are linked to exports outside the EU
  • The DMA design features may de facto discriminate against firms based in the US
  • EU benefits from its ability to trade and export, in a global trade environment with minimal frictions and non-tariff barriers
  • EU firms’ productivity & competitiveness can be harmed insofar as DMA risks impairing some attributes of digital platform services that create value as inputs to EU business users production processes
