The second largest Finnish groceries chain takes over number four

April 17, 2016

On 11 April, the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) granted Ruokakesko (Kesko), the second largest groceries chain in Finland, permission to acquire Suomen Lähikauppa (SLK), the fourth largest chain.

Kesko is a trading sector company with around 900 grocery stores in Finland, mostly in the supermarket and hypermarket segments. SLK has around 600 stores, mostly in the corner store segment.

Copenhagen Economics has supported Kesko and its legal team with independent economic analysis in the discussions with the FCCA. We performed local market competition analysis, entry-exit analysis, diversion ratio analysis, as well as producing different what-if scenarios.
