Global climate model partnership

Situation

The increased focus on the green transition and climate policies has increased the demand for extensive and quantitative tools to guide projections towards a future that will be vastly different from today.

However, making consistent policy and scenario analyses is difficult as the green transition affects entire value chains. These mechanisms interact, impacting each other positively, such as enabling technologies like green hydrogen, and negatively, as seen in conflicts over scarce resources.

We were asked to co-create an economic climate model by combining a classical macroeconomic trade model which took both climate and new technology into account. By combining economic knowledge with technical skills, we designed and built a state-of-the-art tool for climate analysis.

Outcome

Together with Bain & Co, we have co-created the global climate economic model INTERSECT.  The model enables Copenhagen Economics and Bain & Co to offer a diverse range of services, providing added value for clients seeking quantitative insights into the numerous challenges arising from the green transition.
