In this article, published by the Global Competition Review (GCR), Dr. Adina Claici and Elisa Pau outline how the increased use of economic arguments can contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of state aid control.
With the aim to address the main issues identified in the European Commission’s Communication on EU state aid and modernisation from 2012, the aim of this article is twofold. The first part describes the applicable legal framework and explores how economic arguments play a role in state aid control. The second part discusses enforcement priorities and recent developments in the field of state aid.
