Denmark’s industrial hotspot

Denmark’s industrial hotspot

Original title: Danmarks industrielle hotspot

Kalundborg is one of Denmark’s industrial hotspots hosting some of the country’s largest industrial companies such as Novo Nordisk, Novozymes, Statoil Refining and Ørsted. Moreover, while overall industrial employment declined in Denmark during the period 2010-2015, it increased in Kalundborg.

The industrial success is rooted in ongoing initiatives such as Kalundborg Symbiosis and the Alliance for Recruitment in Kalundborg. New initiatives such as a state-of-the-art center for biotechnological production, Knowledge Hub Zealand, and completion of the Kalundborg Highway can contribute to ensure continued growth in Denmark’s industrial hotspot.

The four ongoing and new initiatives have the following economic effects:

  • Kalundborg Symbiosis – Annual effect of DKK 106m

  • The Alliance for Recruitment in Kalundborg – Annual effect of DKK 1m

  • Knowledge Hub Zealand – Annual effect of DKK 240m

  • Completion of the Kalundborg Highway – Total effect of DKK 1bn

The study is commissioned by the municipality of Kalundborg, Novo Nordisk and Knowledge Hub Zealand.
