SAS' contribution to the Scandinavian economy

SAS' contribution to the Scandinavian economy

The aviation sector is important for the Scandinavian economy. It creates jobs and connects Scandinavia to the rest of the world. The added connectivity makes the Scandinavian countries more attractive for investments, trade and tourism, which increases productivity and economic welfare.

SAS is a key player within the Scandinavian aviation sector. In this report, we quantify the economic contribution from SAS in Sweden, Norway and Denmark as well as in Scandinavia at large. In total, SAS contributes SEK 34,2 billion to the Scandinavian economy.

The main conclusions of our study

  • SAS’ largest contribution to the Scandinavian economy is through the air connectivity offered by SAS and it’s alliance partners

  • As a network carrier with hubs at Arlanda, Kastrup and Oslo airports, SAS contributes more to the Scandinavian economy than point-to-point carriers

  • Increased connectivity is key for tourism, international trade, foreign direct investments, and knowledge sharing between Scandinavian and non-Scandinavian companies
